My personal experience with loss
My Mother during her cancer treatments
My mother's journey
My mother was diagnosed with A very aggressive Cancer in 2020. I often felt like others judged me for constantly having my camera out and snapping pictures. I knew deep down that one day everyone, including myself, would appreciate these images. Throughout her journey I tried my best to capture the good times but I also wanted the world to remember just how hard she fought to stay here with her loved ones. The reality of Cancer and the journey is that it is not always "pretty". Although I found her beautiful the entire time I know there were days where she did not feel herself. My siblings and I took care of our mother while she was ill. My favorite memories during that time were getting her all done up even when she didn't initially feel like it and snapping photos of her. Making her feel like herself again for just a short amount of time. Leaving my family with images of my mother that they could hold onto forever. Remembering that although her looks changed, the real Beauty was inside.
I am 1 in 4
In 2017 I got pregnant with my Second child. I was only Pregnant for 12 short weeks. I went in for an ultrasound and was told that my baby no longer had a heart beat. I was scheduled for a D&C that next morning and it was one of the worst feelings I ever experienced. Although I never got to meet my sweet baby girl after losing her I felt so hollow and empty. A feeling I don't wish on my worst enemy. I wish that there would've been a way for me to capture her presence just a bit more before our time was up. Here is a photo that my mother insisted I took with her as she made me feel it was still just as important as if I was delivering a health living baby. I am forever Thankful that she made me take this photo.
Reason for sharing my experiences
Although I have many more experiences with losing loved ones, these are a couple of my own that I have permission to share. I want you to know that when booking me as your bereavement photographer that I am sympathizing with you as I attempt to gift you with a gallery of your loved one that will one day put a smile on your face instead of tears. That you will look at those Images and feel nothing but Peace, Serenity, and Love.
